VICTIMS OF ABUSE: | WELCOME! Welcome all who seek peace and belonging! This is the heart of our ministry. Please come to this site as a refuge, joining with others who seek this same peace. We invite you to contribute your stories and prayers as we journey together as a community of faith. |
Our mission is to promote compassion and healing for people affected by the sexual misconduct of Church representatives. To carry out this mission we accompany the hurt on a journey towards healing and wholeness through prayer, faith sharing, and education. We are a caring Catholic fellowship of laypersons, clergy and religious extending our hands in welcome to all who seek peace and belonging. Let Us Be a Light Ministry's only focus is our spirituality both as individuals and as community. The deepest wounds of abuse are related to the damage that has occurred at the very center -- the soul -- of the victim, the abuser, and our community. Through this ministry we hope to bring light and healing to this most essential part of our being. PRAYER BRINGS ABOUT HEALING BECAUSE IT GIVES US A CLEARER VISION OF WHO GOD IS AND WHO WE ARE
The issue of sexual abuse within our Church is very complex and there has been much needed attention and action to seek a cause and to deal with its aftermath. Tension and arguments have arisen over important issues such as how to protect our children, statutes-of-limitations for childhood abuse, fair compensation for injuries, celibacy and gender of the priesthood, priestly formation, how we deal with homosexuality in our church, the hierarchical structure of our church, the role of the laity and more. Many people that come to this site will, understandably, have strong opinions on these and related issues, but while we are here in this prayer space, we will set these issues aside for awhile and seek only those things that connect us -- our relationship with God and each other as God’s children. When we leave this site, it is our hope that time together in prayer will empower us to become active in the healing and changing of our church and society, working always in a spirit of love and reconciliation to foster community, never alimentation. We believe the best solutions for these issues will require a special compassion, wisdom and courage that can be found through prayer. |

To Join Our Network
We are developing a network of professional counselors, sprititual directors, clergy and others involved in pastoral services for people dealing with sexual abuse related to the Church. Psychotherapy may not be enough to deal with all of the spritual issues that can result from this abuse, and people trained in pastoral care cannot deal with the very serious psychological issues that may exist. This healing work requires a team.
